Justin Trudeau says “the world needs to accelerate ending its dependency on oil and gas in general” in light of the Russia-Ukraine conflict
At a press conference on August 22, with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said “the world needs to accelerate ending its dependency on oil and gas in general."
At the press conference in Montreal, Quebec, Justin Trudeau said “Canada can and will be a reliable supplier of the clean energy that a net zero world requires.”
“We must continue to invest in people because when we invest in people and in progressive policies, we fight inequality and we grow the economy.”
Adding that “when moms don't have to choose between their career and their family, we grow the economy.”
“Canada and Germany have long been partners on the world stage because of our shared values.”
Taking aim at populism, Trudeau said, “In a world where our institutions are being threatened, where we face complex challenges, populism and other simplistic solutions are simply not the answer. Liberal democratic values, strong institutions, these are the things that guarantee our freedom, individually and collectively.”
When discussing the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Justin Trudeau said that the conflict
Trudeau also said that if there is an “energy crisis” or “food security crisis” it is “Putin himself” who caused it.
Speaking about the European energy crisis, Trudeau said, “Europe and Germany will continue to be reliant, for the coming year or two, on Russian oil and gas imports. Russia does not want to continue to send as much oil and gas as is needed to Europe.”
When asked by a reporter if Canada will come to Germany’s aid in delivering LNG to the country, Trudeau responded:
“Canada is a major oil and gas producer in the world, but because of our commitment to fight climate change, we are working very, very hard to decarbonize and develop other sources of energy that we can rely on and that we can share with the world.”
“What Russia's invasion of Ukraine has done has two impacts. One, on the global energy situation, in the short term, it has made it imperative that friends and allies of Canada like Germany are Europe reduce their reliance on Russian oil and gas. But in the medium and long term, it means the world needs to accelerate ending its dependency on oil and gas in general.”
“So we are in a situation in the short term where we will do what we can to contribute to the global supply of energy by increasing our capacities in the short term and explore ways to see, if it makes sense, to export LNG directly to Europe.”
“But in the medium term and long term, Canada can and will position itself to be a key supplier of energy to the world in a net-zero economy”, Trudeau continued.
Translation: everyone who does not agree with me is a simpleton. I know nothing about science but I am good at spouting progressive cliches. No matter how many times I am wrong I will always blame it on Putin. Oh, and we know there will be famine this year but we are not doing anything about it because we never let a crisis go to waste, to institute WEF policies.
Surprisingly Trudeau did not say, “Let them eat bugs.”
